I have too many social media accounts pertaining to my art:
Tumblr, which doubles as my website (which should change around the beginning of the year). Solid mutuals.
Instagram(derogatory) where I have probably the most followers and least engagement. The algorithm is self-defeating.
Facebook Page(derogatory) is even worse than IG. It’s a pay-to-play, with your own followers often never seeing your posts. So mostly a few friends follow.
Artfol was supposed to be the next big IG Killer and it went nowhere. I haven’t updated in months.
ArtStation I often forget exists. I was hoping to use this as a portfolio site, but I don’t produce as much finished work as I want.
DeviantArt is mostly held onto for nostalgia. People literally say “I forgot about DA” all the time. Their shady business practices in the last don’t make them appealing.
Twitter doesn’t often result in too much engagement for my art.
Reddit doesn’t either.
TikTok was supposed to be time lapse drawings. I was also hoping to do some comic tips videos but never did.
Patreon has never been used, though I probably should someday. There are people with a small output that do well.
Ko-Fi is similar to Patreon where I signed up and it never went anywhere.
This doesn’t take into account the fact I’m have something like 6 Tumblrs and several IGs.
tumblr creating a group chat feature that was so horribly designed no one ever wanted to use it (and inexplicably publicly visible?), phasing it in by infecting random users without making an announcement, watching as it sat unused for like a year, and then wordlessly removing it is such a deeply tumblr act. you don’t get this anywhere else
I’ll miss* my group of comic creators groups. I was the older person in both of them, at 40 years old, and one of the few people with prior webcomic experience (and the only during the Golden Age of Webcomics of the late 90s and early 2000s). So often I gave advice that I learned from years of doing it, while also learning how to navigate newer formats like Webtoons.
*I hadn’t visited or contributed in months. Sometimes there wasn’t any activity for a week, and the group chats didn’t have an archive.
